Amadeus provides the technology that keeps the travel sector in motion – from initial search to making a booking, from pricing to ticketing, from managing reservations to managing check-in and departure processes.
To be able to provide a faster programmatic access to infrastructure for the Amadeus developer community, and for later use as the basis of production systems of future applications, Amadeus chose OpenStack as the IaaS layer.
This talk will focus on a couple of key learnings that Amadeus made during their journey to OpenStack:
- How OpenStack challenges the status quo of traditional operations of compute, networking and storage
- What influence the needs of traditional applications had on the choice of the underlying compute, storage and networking layer
- What challenges were faced when combining new design patterns of 3rd generation apps with best practices of traditional IT and virtualization
- What OpenStack projects like Heat and Neutron were key to success, and what tooling was missing that needed to be externally provided
