My name is Michael Maximilien, better known as max or dr.max, and I am a currently a Distinguished Engineer with IBM. I am the leader for IBM’s Open Source team contributing to all things Serverless and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS). I have worked at various divisions of IBM. At IBM Research Triangle Park, I was a principal engineer for the worldwide industry point-of-sale standard: JavaPOS. At IBM Research, I was a research scientist and did pioneering work on semantic Web services, API mashups, cloud computing, and platform-as-a-service. I joined the IBM Cloud Labs in 2014 as Chief Architect for Cloud Innovations working closely with Pivotal Inc., to help make Cloud Foundry the best PaaS on the planet. Currently I lead IBM’s OSS team, helping develop Knative: the Kubernetes serverless platform, after having pioneered the CLI of that project. My main expertise are in areas of software engineering and distributed systems. I have published over 75 refereed papers with citations count on GoogleScholar over 6000 and I hold 21 issued US patents. I am an avid semi-retired amateur triathlete who has completed more than 10 half Ironman and one full Ironman and more than 20 marathons. I am also an avid photographer for more than 20 years with a few award winning photographs in 2021 and 2022.
